SFS Sand Trap Channel

Composite drainage and sand catching system developed for the edges of long jump and triple jump sand pits. While clarifying the separation between the synthetic surface and the sand pit, it traps splashed sand in its special chamber, preventing the main drainage line from clogging. With its removable composite superstructure, sand removal and cleaning are highly practical.

Sand Trap Drainage Channel for Long-Jump and Triple-Jump Pits

The SFS sand trap drainage channel captures sand carried from long-jump and triple-jump pits while directing surface water into the drainage line. This single edge detail helps control both sand migration onto the track and standing water after rainfall.

Where and how is a sand trap channel used?

The channel is installed along the interface between the landing pit and the synthetic track surface. Its removable grate provides maintenance access so trapped sand can be lifted out and the channel body flushed. Project-specific levels, falls and outlet positions should be coordinated with the technical drawings.

Part of a complete athletics drainage system

A sand trap channel is a purpose-built system component rather than a generic slit drain. It works with straight or radius drainage channels and a composite inspection chamber; the outlet is coordinated with site flow, pipework and maintenance access.

Design and installation files

The placement plan shows how the sand trap and soft-head kerb meet around the landing pit. DXF drawings provide the channel body, grate and side-cover geometry for CAD coordination, while the data sheet and installation guide support specification and site installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about this product

What does a sand trap drainage channel do?

It captures sand carried from the landing pit and directs surface water into the drainage line, controlling sand migration and standing water at the same edge detail.

How is the sand trap channel cleaned?

The removable grate is lifted, trapped sand is taken out and the channel body is flushed toward the outlet. Maintenance frequency depends on use and site conditions.

Are CAD drawings available for the sand trap drain?

Yes. DXF files for the channel body, grate and side cover, plus an English placement plan, are available in the technical files section on this page.

What load class does this product support?

SFS Drain channels are designed for load class A15 (pedestrian and light traffic) per EN 1433, suitable for athletics track operating conditions. Contact our engineering team for project-specific load requirements.

What material are the channels and covers made of?

All channel bodies, covers, and inspection chambers are made from composite material. The composite structure offers light weight, corrosion resistance, and long-term performance.

What is the typical installation time?

On-site installation of a single channel unit, including placement, alignment, and haunching, takes approximately 8-12 minutes. Do not backfill until the C20/25 concrete haunching has cured.

What is the product warranty?

SFS Drain products carry a standard 2-year manufacturer warranty against defects. Under correct installation and load conditions, product life exceeds 20 years.
